2 years agoMetroid Dread is good. My favorite of the Metroid games I've played… Those also including Zero Mission and Samus returns, but uh… I need to go play super and fusion.

2 years agoMetroid Dread was awesome, and I didn't notice the music or environmental ambiance pitalls while I was playing it, but…
I have to say, I'm not getting recommendations for your videos anymore. I needed to remember, "Hey, Arlo makes really good and well-thought-out content—and quite a bit OF it IIRC, and I haven't seen one of his videos or even thought about him in a while. Maybe I should see what he's up to…?" And then I had to do a search to find this. (You can tell, I never subscribed, and I probably should've.)

2 years agoThe music of previous Metroid games feels somewhat adventurous most of the time. This game's sound design really emphasized the sense of loneliness and for that, I think it was pretty good! I do appreciate that Arlo maintains being critical though, it makes it much easier to take him seriously.

2 years agoNever played a Metroid game before this, but I loved it. The bosses can be frustrating, but are therefore also very satisfying to beat.

2 years agoI LOVE having EMMIs in the game. I think that part of the Metroid atmosphere and experience is fear, and those murder-bots were absolutely terrifying.

2 years agoI… I like the music. Certainly isn't very catchy, but it gets the job done and I don't know why everyone hates on it so much. I REALLY like the different tracks in the EMMI areas

2 years ago"Considering the poor reception received by the last few metroid games". Sorry, what games except for Other M? Federation force? I'm pretty sure all of the Metroid games have been well praised.

2 years agoI think they could have done a little more with General Raven Beak. The very first Chozo Samus meets in a very long time should have been a bigger moment for her. Not to mention one that is more responsible for her upbringing than initially believed.

2 years agoDread was def better than samus returns. However, I still feel i Enjoyed AM2r more…the music, pixel art, exploration it honestly felt like the closest thing to Super Metroid.

2 years agoThis is my very first Metroid game and I really liked it. The visuals were amazing. The music and sound effects are satisfying and badass. The controls and combat is MUAH chefs kiss… but I got lost WAY WAY WAY to often. Like you said wondering around aimlessly hoping to find something I previously missed. And there are a lot of mechanics my Dumbass can’t keep up with. I didn’t beat the game because the final boss kicked my ass, I took a break for a week. Came back, and forgot most of the combat controls. Really enjoyed the game but it was quite frustrating and confusing.

2 years ago100% agree on the combat/controls. Samus never felt better and the combat has never been more fun.
Its also funny how you mentioned not remembering music as that was really the only negative thing I have to say about the game. Which is unfortunate because I love game OSTs, and especially Metroid ones. And not really remembering any music from the game is the exact thing I thought after beating it.

2 years agoI fail to understand your point about the music. Just say you don't like the music, instead your bringing up atmosphere like you have any idea what you're talking about. I think the ominous sounding music suited Metroid: DREAD pretty well.

2 years agoThe music, or lack thereof, was also my biggest criticism of this game. In the end, I felt like something was missing the entire time because the areas just didn't have that flavor that the previous games added with their music, and it was really disappointing.

2 years agoPretty much every thought you laid out in this review I agree with. Probably one of the most anticipated games for me in my entire lifetime of gaming and seeing it go above and beyond my expectations made me so happy. For me personally, it's almost a perfect Metroid game. Great review and I'm glad to finally hear your thoughts on it.
