A teen from Florida has won the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee successful the United States.

Dev Shah, a 14-year-old pupil from Largo, spelled "psammophile" correctly to triumph the 95th nationalist bee and the $50,000 (£40,000) prize.

Charlotte Walsh, besides 14, from Arlington, Virginia, was the runner-up, having failed to correctly spell "daviely" successful an earlier round.

A psammophile is an organism that lives successful sandy areas.
